Her Story
The Journey That Shaped Charisse Lillie
Experience You Can't Learn in a Classroom
Before she became an attorney, corporate executive, corporate board director, and author, Charisse Lillie was a young girl growing up in segregated Houston, surrounded by a family and community that believed education, integrity, and perseverance could overcome even the highest barriers. Those early lessons would shape every chapter of her life. As one of the first Black students to integrate an all-White Catholic school, Charisse learned what it meant to carry expectations that extended far beyond herself. She discovered that preparation builds confidence, that character earns trust, and that lasting leadership begins long before anyone gives you a title. Those experiences became the foundation for a remarkable career and the inspiration behind Upon A Turning Stage. Over the decades that followed, Charisse built a distinguished career in law, business, and public service. She served as a litigation partner at Ballard Spahr, held executive leadership positions at Comcast Corporation, including President of the Comcast Foundation, chaired the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, and continues to serve on the boards of leading organizations, including PECO, Penn Mutual, and Independence Health Group. Yet ask Charisse what shaped her most, and it won't be a title or board appointment. It will be the people who challenged her to think bigger, the mentors who opened doors, and the defining moments that taught her how to lead with courage, conviction, and purpose. Those experiences are the heart of Upon A Turning Stage, and the wisdom she now shares with readers.

“Opportunity may change your path, but character determines where it leads.”
- Charrise R. Lillie

The Story Behind Upon A Turning Stage
Why Charisse Lillie Wrote Upon A Turning Stage
Charisse did not write Upon A Turning Stage to offer formulas for success.
She wrote it because the moments that shape us often become the lessons that shape others.
Through deeply personal stories of family, community, leadership, and perseverance, she invites readers to reflect on their own turning points and discover how resilience, integrity, and purpose can guide every season of life.
As Charisse writes, "My intention was only to tell my own story, and in doing so, hopefully allow the reader to glean some wisdom from my own very real, lived experience."

The Next Chapter is Yours to Write
The lessons in Upon A Turning Stage were shaped through decades of lived experience, but they were written with one purpose in mind: to help others navigate life's defining moments with wisdom and confidence.
Because every journey deserves guidance, and every turning stage holds the potential to become something greater.
